50th Anniversary Parish
Picnic Celebration
You and your family are cordially invited to attend Mary
Queen of Heaven's 50th Anniversary Parish Picnic on Sunday,
September 17, 2006. Rain or shine, the picnic will be held on
the parish grounds from 12:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Many plans have
been made to provide food, fun and entertainment for both adults
and children of all ages.
As in previous years, a huge tent with sides will be
available in case of rain. Families can bring their own food or
purchase tickets for an "All-You-Can-Eat Buffet." Tickets will
be available for the Buffet this weekend after all the Masses.
Adults $9.00 each; Kids $6.00 each. Buffet tickets must be
purchased by September 14th. Popcorn, cotton candy, soda and
bottled water will be available for purchase. Activities for the
family will include, face painting, moon jumps, a slide, egg
toss, Limbo contest, balloon toss, volleyball, fire truck, disk
jockey, Bingo and a Dessert Bake-Off Contest.
The Dessert Bake-Off Contest was a big hit last year so we
are planning another one for our Picnic Celebration on Sept. 17.
Get your favorite Dessert Recipes out and pick the one you wish
to enter in the contest. Those who are entering a Dessert for
the Contest should deliver their Sample Dessert to the School
Social Hall by 12:30 p.m., as judging will take place at 1:00
p.m.
Special features will be the availability of our 50th
Anniversary Cookbook and Spirit Clothing. Sounds like lots of
fun, so be sure to plan on attending and spending a wonderful
afternoon enjoying conversations and participation in the various
activities with parishioners and alumni of our parish.
For more information or to volunteer to help, please call
Bob Glick (833-5725), Ed Hayes (279-5325), or Sheila Reiter (833-

Request for Sacristan Ministers
We are looking for people who would be willing to help with
our Sacristan Ministry. The Sacristans are the ones who help to
prepare for each Mass. They maintain the sacred vessels,
vestments, and linens, and they manage all of the supplies that
are used for our different celebrations in church. Our head
sacristan must cut back on her responsibilities due to health
problems, and her "right hand" helper is moving out of state
because of her husband's job transfer.
If you would be interested in learning more about what happens
"behind the scenes," you might enjoy the ministry of sacristan.
We are hoping to have some volunteers who would be willing to
learn all aspects of the ministry (cross-training, so to speak),
so that people can cover for one another when there is a need.
However, it is possible to make only a limited commitment, for
example, to machine wash altar server robes, or to bring
vestments and linens to the dry cleaners when needed, or to set
up for morning Mass on a certain day of the week.
If you would like to volunteer or learn more about this
important ministry of our parish, please contact Mary Foley at
the parish office at 279-5700 or by E-mail at MMRFoley@aol.com.

Religious Education News
Our catechist meetings begin this week and we still have
classes that need a leader. HELP us fill our remaining catechist
positions. Our opening event is September 13. We pray that we
will not have to delay our first class session on September 20
because good people like yourself have not come forward.
Please consider joining our team of dedicated men and women
just like yourself who weekly share their Faith with the young
people of the parish. Help our children to get to know our God.
All sessions meet on Wednesdays. Please bear in mind
because of the size of our program we have almost 70 catechist
and aide positions to fill. We need only 5 more. We are blessed.
If you can help, please call the REO today. Classes begin soon.
Help keep our children safe on Wednesday afternoons.
We are in dire need of help with traffic control on Wednesdays.
The parking lot is very congested on Wednesdays, particularly the
first session with folks picking up Emerson children, Emerson
children walking over to our school building, and people from
schools other than Emerson dropping off children for RE. It would
take only 15-20 minutes of your time weekly. But the service that
you would be providing our little ones could last a lifetime. If
you always wanted to help in the RE program, but the classroom is
just not your thing, than this may be where you are called. Know
that if your children are not registered at the first session, we
can use help monitoring traffic at all three sessions. We are
waiting for your call.
Have you registered yet?
Registrations are still being taken in the REO for the coming
year. Our opening event is September 13th. It will be here before
we know it. Remember that we do not process registrations the
week of September 20th. If you want your children to start on the
first day of class, register now. Pass the word to your friends
and neighbors.
Our calendar and other information regarding RE should be in the
mail. Please read it over carefully.
For more info on any of the above, please call Mary Ann Woods at
the REO, 832-8962.

Lands of the Bible
Week 4 Synopsis
This week we travel up the mountains of the Bible Lands.
How many mountains have stood before us in our lifetime, and how
did we deal with them? Are the mountains an obstacle or a place
of growth for us? We may find that the topographical study of
the Bible may be more than merely a study of geography.

Rebuild Church, Rebuild Hope:
A National collection for the Archdiocese of New
Orleans
And the Diocese of Biloxi
___________________________________________________
_____
"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted,
and those who are crushed in spirit he saves." (Ps
34:19)
Help Rebuild Church, Rebuild Hope, the national
collection to support hurricane relief efforts in
the Archdiocese of New Orleans and Diocese of
Biloxi on August 26-27, 2006.
The theme of the national collection - Rebuild
Church, Rebuild Hope - is inspired by Bishop Thomas
Rodi of Biloxi, who proclaimed to the bishops of
the United States that to "rebuild the Church is to
rebuild hope itself."
These two dioceses, so devastated by the ravages of
Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, are still in a state
of unimaginable need. Collections in 2005 right
after the hurricanes focused on immediate
humanitarian relief, and only scratched the surface
of the needs involved.
This special collection on August 26-27 focuses on
rebuilding churches, schools, and other essential
parts of the parishes' infrastructure which are
needed to rebuild people's hope. Rebuilding the
Church and her structures is critically important
now, as many civil jurisdictions declare that they
are no longer able to assist those who were
displaced by the 2005 hurricanes, and will be
unable to do so in the future.
Help rebuild the Church and rebuild hope in New
Orleans and Biloxi on August 26-27. The need is
great. And your participation can make a
difference.
You may also make a contribution next week by
putting your check
In an envelope marked "Hurricane Relief
collection."
