Religious Education of youth is a priority at Mary Queen of Heaven. Following the guidelines set forth by the Diocese of Joliet, we strive to provide a variety of programs that meet the catechetical needs of our young people.
We believe that Catholic Religious Education is an expression of the mission entrusted to the Church by Jesus. The mission of our program is to consistently extend Jesus’ invitation to discipleship and to provide our children with age-appropriate catechesis guided by a biblical faith, the teaching of the Church and a clear vision of the Gospel.
The Mary Queen of Heaven Religious Education program services over 500 children and is staffed by over 80 volunteer catechists, aides and office helpers, a part-time professional Director of Religious Education and a part-time Administrative Assistant.
Currently our sessions run from mid-September to the end of April. We meet on Wednesdays in the school building. There are three different sessions:
Session 1 - 3:15 to 4:30 p.m. - First grade through Grade 4
•
Session 2 - 5:15 to 6:30 p.m. - First grade through Grade 7
•
Session 3 - 6:45 to 8:00 p.m. - Grade 5 through Confirmation Prep.
The students are prepared for the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist in Grade 2 and for Confirmation in Grade 8. They celebrate Reconciliation and Eucharist for the first time in Grade 2.
